Chongqing Municipality
Chongqing, the only municipality directly under the central government in midwest China, enjoys an important strategic location.
Located at the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road, Chongqing serves as a pillar for the development and opening of the western regions, the west hub of the Yangtz River Economic Belt, the core of Chengdu-Chongqing City Clusters as well as the pilot zone for China’s comprehensive reform of urban and rural areas.
Chongqing is a central city of China’s nine logistics areas, one of the 21 national logistics nodes, and the economic center on the upper reaches of Yangtze River. This city will embrace the strategic opportunities of “One Belt and One Road” Initiative to expand its opening and build itself into a window of the hinterland.
Chonqing: Logistics Centre in Inland China
Chongqing is dedicated to constructing a comprehensive transportation system with the water way, railway lines, highways and airways working together to offer the convenient domestic and international transport. Chongqing will act as the shipping center on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, a comprehensive transportation hub in Southwest China and a great channel for international trade.
The “4 + 5” Strategic Channel to the Outside is taking shape:
To enhance Chongqing’s capacity of opening to the outside, four international transportation channels are planned, namely, Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe, Chongqing-Shanghai-Pacific, Chongqing-Kunming-Indian Ocean and Chongqing-Shenzhen-Pacific.
To accelerate the process of building Chongqing into a transportation hub in Southwest China, five domestic transportation channels are planned, namely, Chongqing-Chengdu, Chongqing-Zhengzhou, Chongqing-Guiyang, Chongqing-Changsha and Chongqing-Xi’an.
By 2020, all the districts and counties (including autonomous counties) in Chongqing will be accessible by highway and 95 percent of them will be reached by railway. Meanwhile, the journey from Chongqing to neighboring provinces and coastal cities will be shortened into 4 hours and 8 hours respectively.
Shapingba District
Shapingba District, located in the west of Chongqing proper, is the cultural center and regional business center of Chongqing.
Shapingba District has solid foundation and distinct advantages in industry. Chongqing Western Logistics Park, Xiyong Microelectronics Industrial Park, Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone, Taiwan-funded Information Industry Supporting Park, Shapingba Industrial Park all locate in Shangpingba District.
Three pillar industies in Shapingba are electronic & information product manufacturing, transportation equipment manufacturing and telecoms equipment manufacturing.
The district pushes forward the construction and development of Logistics Park, Chongqing College Town, Xiyong Microelectronics Industrial Park and Taiwan-funded Information Industry Supporting Park. It has become a pioneer and an important port for the opening of Inland China.
